The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The authorities in Costa Rica announced the seizure of 50 kilos of cocaine that was transported in a boat that ran aground on a beach in the Caribbean and whose occupants fled during a police chase.
The Ministry of Security of Costa Rica said that the boat was seized on Tuesday after a chase that forced its crew, a number not stated, to beach their boat in Punta Mona, province of Limón (Caribbean) .
50 kilos of cocaine were in a bag inside the boat and the authorities suspect that the occupants may have released some packages of drugs into the sea to get rid of the evidence.
The National Guard was in charge of the high-speed operation, which took place in difficult conditions due to strong waves prevailing in the area.
“Despite the intense search of the area, it was not possible to find the crew of the suspect vessel, since after they ran into the jungle, they presumably fled to Panama because of the proximity of the border,” said the Ministry of Security. (EFE)
