At 3:04 am, May 5, a strong earthquake shook many from their sleep, in San Jose metropolitan area.
The quake was felt in various parts of San Jose metropolitan area. According to the National Seismological Network, the earthquake was 3.6 on the Richter scale, with the epicenter located 3 miles northeast of Carthage Corralillo. Local faulting is to blame.
The OVSICORI reported a magnitude of 3.5 and places the epicenter 2 kilometers northeast of Carthage Palmital.
The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Costa Rica, indicates that it was of magnitude 3.7 and gives its location five kilometers east of Corralillo of Carthage.
The movement was strongly felt in Aserrí, Carthage, Homeless, Santa Ana and other parts of the province of San José. No damage reported.
