The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – According to the last count of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MTSS) in Costa Rica some 127 complaints have been received on the issue of non-payment of the yearly bonus.
Of that total, most have been in San Jose with 62 complaints, followed by the province of Cartago 23, and Heredia with 12.
The remaining 30 complaints about this bonus were received in the various regional offices.
Once the complaint has been filed, labor inspectors go to the company involved and request proof that the employer has not complied with the payment of the thirteenth month, which must be made no later than December 20.
After this preventative visit, the employer must comply immediately. After a second check is performed and if the failure still persists, the cases that have not paid will go before the Labour Court.
In addition, the Ministry of Labour reminds workers that payment of this item should not be conditional according to the employers, and is payable regardless of employment status with the company, or if the worker met a “cap” sales, for example.
If you have not yet received your payment, or are in doubt as to the amount, the headquarters and regional MTSS will remain open today and tomorrow to receive complaints.
