Bribri indigenous families of Cabagra Reserve in Buenos Aires de Puntarenas recovered about 40 hectares of land in the community of Santa Elena de las Brisas, according to the National Indigenous Mesa Costa Rica (MNICR).

The leader Eduardo Lopez said the land was “held illegally by non-Indians, who used as pasture.” He added that the land belongs to the historical and legally Cabagra Territory.

The Indigenous Indian Development Association (IDA) and the Common Law Court of the Territory made issued the orders required to reclaim the land. Lopez said that “the world view should watch bribri mother earth and its resources, the farm is a pasture, so it is deforested and Cabagra river water contaminated with the products they use in pastures and livestock”.

Said families also will work to reforest the land. Earlier this year there were complaints of alleged attacks against Indians in the same region of Buenos Aires.

A detailed street directory is important when visiting new cities.

Students at the National University warned that on January 4, three Indians were attacked and injured with a gun, a machete and a club, just after a land was recovered.
