The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – After the activity from the Poas Volcano on Monday in which the ash reached the scenic viewpoint for tourists, the public visitors site has been moved a mile from the crater, as dictated by the National System of Conservation Areas (Sinac).

Meanwhile, after the inspection on Tuesday by geologists from the National Seismological Network (RSN), it was determined that the phreatic eruption that occurred on Monday, reaching between 450 and 500 meters, is the largest eruption reported in recent years.

Gino Gonzalez, geologist for RSN, said the eruptions in the crater could continue at any moment.

According to the analysis at the seismic signal station during the first day of October, seismic events at levels of less than 50 events per day were maintained until October 6.

The two eruptions Monday are the biggest in recent years and is especially significant because both occurred in less than a week. However, phreatic eruptions are the simplest and show the presence of magma.

In the short term, it is expected that it will be very difficult to predict how large future eruptions might be. It is therefore necessary to take extreme safety standards especially for people with respiratory problems who want to visit Poas Volcano National Park. (Crhoy)
