Costa Rica’s Pacific Northwest is on Red Alert for High Waves and Strong Winds This Valentine’s Weekend

The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Those going for romantic boat rides and picnics on the beach in the Pacific Northwest will need to use caution: Strong gusts of up to 90 kph and waves up to 4.3 meters in height will affect the coast through Sunday.

A report by the Center for Marine Research (CIMAR) of the University of Costa Rica, released a report on Wednesday showing places like Bahía Salinas, Tamarindo and Coco Beach will have high winds and strong waves, which means a red status for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

CIMAR oceanographer, Omar Lizano, explained that in other sectors such as Samara, Guanacaste, there may be gusts up to 46 kph, with waves of 2.2 meters high.

Lizano insisted that small vessels less than 7 meters in length should avoid navigating between Thursday and Sunday in the North Pacific country.

The sea research specialist added that Puntarenas is on yellow alert from Friday to Sunday with gusts of 60 kph and waves of 1.5 meters.
