Universal to expand business, opening 3 new stores

The department store Universal announced the expansion of its business and the creation of 3 more stores in the country for the second half of the year.

Universal is a chain of department stores dedicated to wholesale and retail, with a focus on six broad categories: library, toys, home, beauty, baby, and technology. To know more, check out their website.

There will be openings in Liberia, Central Avenue, and in the Escazu Village project, which will open its doors with an “aggressive business proposal in distinct categories,” informed Sellene Castro, marketing manager of Universal Group.

All of these stores will add 50 thousand square meters by the end of the year. The chain currently has 11 stores across the country that make up 40 thousand square meters.

The chain expects to hire about 200 workers, thus reaching in November 850 direct employees, 700 fixed, and 150 temporary.

The announcement of the expansion is given in conjunction with the celebration of the 90 years of development of Universal in the country since it was born in 1926 as a stationary printing business.

Universal Group was created as a 100% Costa Rican family company, and has stood ot as one of the most important companies in the country, setting the standard in national trade and earning the confidence and affection of customers as the “official store of Costa Rica.”
