For many people there is nothing quite like traveling. They want to spend all of their free time experiencing foreign countries and cultures- some in their holidays and for others those few weeks abroad are simply not enough. They long for more, for living the exotic life. Volunteering is one popular way to live abroad while doing something useful at the same time.

For students especially this is a time when you have the chance to travel and have once-in-a-lifetime- adventures. In other words, this is the time when you are not yet involved in a fulltime job, when you are free to stay away from your duties for more than just a few weeks. At the same time, being a student unfortunately often comes along with having an empty wallet.

But why would someone work without earning money? For me the answer is as clear as it is for every volunteer elsewhere. I want to get to know the country, the culture, the whole lifestyle that has fascinated me for such a long time. Most importantly, this is a chance to combine two of my passions- traveling and writing.

San José is an attractive city for volunteering in Costa Rica. Its central position makes it easy to travel to any location within just a few hours. Additionally, Costa Rica is an interesting environment for volunteering as it offers a lot of lively projects. Depending on your personal interests, you can volunteer in anything from helping preserve natural spaces to saving turtles’ lives. The best feeling is of course that of doing something useful for the planet and its people. If you are interested in volunteering in Costa Rica, here are some great websites to start you off:
