    The annual Carnival of Puntarenas is one of the most anticipated Parties of the year in the country, attracting lots of people nationally and internationally.

    Known to the locals as the ‘Pearl of the Pacific,’ Puntarenas is a historic port and shipbuilding center. There is a deep connection between the inland San Jose and the coast, historically dependent on cargo and seafood offloaded as well as their own exports. During the uptick in the Costa Rican economy during the middle of the twentieth century, Puntarenas became the weekend playground of the coffee barons, much as the New Jersey Shore became the weekend retreat of the Wall Street executive.

    Friday:

    Fireworks announcing the beginning of the carnival.

    At 7:00pm, The election for the Queen of the Carnival.
    Location: At the prestigious Puerto Azul Resort & Marina. Come to see the beautiful Latinas

    Fireworks at 8:00pm
    Location: Cruise ships Dock, in honor of the elected Queen

    Saturday:

    Championship of beach volleyball (during the morning )

    Gran Tope:
    With the best horses in the country, starting in the area of National Apprenticeship Institute (INA)
    all the way through the marine park (parque marino) passing by the boulevard of tourists (paseo de los turistas) and it ends at the beautiful San Lucas beach club.

    Sunday:

    Final championship of volleyball. (during the morning)
    Concerts with: Banton, Toledo and Freddy Alvez. (during the afternoon)
    Shows with different bands,
    Starting at the park Abelardo Lobo (Located almost at the end of the famous boulevard of the tourists) it will end at Plaza del Pacifico. But the party does not finish there,
    Party keeps up all night long!

    During the next weekdays, activities like:
    Traditional dances of Costa Rica,fireworks & many other activities will keep you warmed up for the exciting weekend.

    Saturday:

    Regatta, starting at the luxurious Puerto Azul Resort & Marina
    International concerts with the bands: Percance, Un rojo reggae band & Los cafres.
    One more time at the boulevard of the tourists with the beautiful breeze and view of the pacific.

    Sunday:
    Traditional Street dancing with the hot rhythms of the latin dances & dancers.
