President of Venezuela, Nicolás MaduroLatin America News – The acting president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, won the election by a narrow margin on Sunday, electoral officials said that country.
The opposition candidate Henrique Capriles said he did not recognize the result until every vote is counted.
But Maduro, who was called by the late President Hugo Chavez as his successor, said that the result was “fair, legal and constitutional.”
According to figures from the National Electoral Council, Maduro triumphed with a total of 7,505,338 votes (50.66%), while Capriles obtained 7,270,403 votes (49.07%), with 99.10% of the votes counted.
