The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The President of the Minister of Women and the National Women’s Institute (INAMU) in Costa Rica, Maureen Clarke, announced today that she will leave the Government of Laura Chinchilla to join the 2014 elections, since she is determined to get involved in the presidential campaign of Johnny Araya.

Clarke informed the local media that she will join Araya´s political party in the elections of 2014 with a gender agenda, but promised to “help” in any way necessary.

Clarke’s departure will be number 16 in Chinchilla´s government, whose office began in 2010 and will end in May of 2014.

The minister said that she will take a vacation first before joining the National Liberation Party (PLN) Campaign next February, during the 2014 elections.

“I’ll help with my experience, especially on gender agenda, and will see what other fields I can work in,” she stated. Araya´s campaign manager welcomed Clarke and said that it would be a pleasure to have her in the ranks.

Clarke added that she still does not know if she will run for deputy or any other political office.

The ex-president of the Ministry of Women in Costa Rica has also held the positions of Minister of Justice and Grace as well as Government and Police Minister.

The vice president of the INAMU board of directors, Gabriela Romero, will substitute Clarke. EFE
