Latin America News – The government of Panama ordered to establish power rationing due to the prolonged drought that has affected the country’s power supply.
The order calls for schools to close temporarily and reduce working hours in government offices, according the presidential office.
Also, businesses such as supermarkets, bars, cinemas and restaurants should suspend activities between 22.00 and 6.00 pm from Monday to Thursday.
The statement does not specify how long the measure will be in effect. The drop in hydropower production is due to lack of rainfall experienced throughout the country for several months.
The Panama Canal will not be affected because it produces its own energy.
