The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The Ovsicori-UNA reported at least 16 felt earthquakes in Costa Rica so far in the month of June.
These earthquakes ranged from 2.5 to 6.6 magnitudes. These kinds of number fall with the average. Approximately 6,000 earthquakes shook Costa Rica in 2012, a relatively high number.
There are four plates converging in the region, the Cocos plate, the Nazca plate, the Caribbean plate and the Panama microplate. Further the thinnest mantle on the globe is found in Costa Rica, which makes this country a favorite “laboratory” for seismologist from around the world, that come to Costa Rica for research.
