The chairman of the National Committee of the People’s Political Consultative Conference Chinese, Jia Qinglin arrived in Costa Rica this week for an official visit where he will meet with Costa Rican President, Laura Chinchilla.
The Costa Rican Foreign Ministry said that the Chinese political was received today by the Costa Rican Foreign Minister Enrique Castillo, and tomorrow has scheduled two meetings with Chinchilla and Congress President Victor Emilio Granados.
During his visit Jia Qinglin plans to sign two agreements on economic and technical cooperation with Costa Rica for a total of $ 9.6 million for projects that “will be decided jointly by the two countries,” said the Foreign Ministry.
“Mr. Jia’s visit aims to strengthen and deepen bilateral friendly ties with Costa Rica, following the recent state visit of President Chinchilla to China last August,” said the official statement.
Jia’s visit to Costa Rica is part of a Chinese official tour including Italy and Argentina.
The People’s Political Consultative Conference Chinese comprises representatives of different political and social groups in China.
Costa Rica and China established diplomatic relations in June 2007, after Costa Rica broke ties with Taiwan in a controversial decision and since has continued to build its relationship with China initiating several large projects and ventures.
