The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – President Laura Chinchilla, issued a defamation lawsuit against a Costa Rican businessman, confirmed the judiciary.
The press office told EFE that the complaint was filed on Tuesday afternoon before the Criminal Court of San Jose.
The defendant’s lawyer and businessman Alberto Rodriguez Baldi, has been publicly critical of some government officials and decisions, especially through social networks.
Last week, Rodriguez posted on his Facebook profile a text stating that Chinchilla had purchased land worth millions of dollars in the coastal province of Guanacaste, on the Pacific.
In another publication linked Chinchilla to a business in wind power generation.
“If the president wants to discuss issues of corruption in a grievance process, so be it (…) I think a golden opportunity to question the president,” he said.
The Minister of Communication, Carlos Roverssi, told the newspaper La Nacion that the president filed the lawsuit on her citizenship, and she will cover legal expenses.
According Roverssi, Chinchilla only intended to “defend her honor” and “make it very clear that the only resources they receive are those of her salary and her husband’s pension.”
