The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Swimmers and boaters should be extra cautious this weekend along the Caribbean coast. From Friday, December 26 to Monday the 29 there will be dangerous surf in these waters, warns oceanographer Omar Lizano from the Research Center of Marine Sciences and Limnology (CIMAR).
According to Lizano, the wind from a high pressure system coming from North America is what is causing rough seas in the Caribbean of Costa Rica. These winds could create waves with peak heights of up to 3.1 meters on Friday and Saturday.
These strong winds may also affect the North Pacific Costa Rica, which will generate dangerous surf but further out at sea, the researcher added.
“Waves about 2 meters high will be present on Friday with offshore prevailing winds with gusts as high 26 knots (48 kph),” said Lizano.
The expert is advising swimmers and small ship owners to take the necessary precautions to stay safe over this holiday weekend. (Amelia Rueda)
