The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The Ministry of Health has implemented a new system to help people quit smoking through the use of text messages, which has already shown significant and positive results.
Anthony Zamora, project manager, explains that the system has already been used by 2,300 people. Of these, 60 percent completed the program, resulting in 300 people who quit smoking cigarettes completely.
To impact more people, the Ministry of Health and the IAFA will join forces to address the problem together, and are hoping to get 500,000 smokers to quit the habit.
The idea is to give smokers different options so they can achieve a healthier lifestyle.
At this time the Fund has five smoking clinics, located at the hospitals in Heredia, Alajuela, San Juan de Dios, Calderon Guardia and Mexico. However, they anticipate increasing this number in 2015 to 29 clinics in various health centers. (ADN)
