GUATEMALA – On Sunday Fuego volcano erupted. Located approximately 60 kilometers south of the capital Guatemala City, column of ash reached heights of a kilometer high, winds were moving the ash in a southeast direction. At least three rivers of lava were reported as from crater flowing down the sides of the volcano.
A “Orange Alert” (the second of a three-level alert system) was issued by the National Volcanology Institute. The ejections were explosive, hurling lava boulders up to 500 meters.
