Firefighters of La Fortuna and Zacero receive ecological award, The Blue Flag

Recently the award of The Blue Ecological Flag was dedicated to two Costa Rican firehouses. The staffs situated at the firehouses in La Fortuna, San Carlos and Zacero were addressed. These are the first stations in the Western part of the country to receive the honor. Thanks to a series of environmental practices and the commitment of the firefighters of Zarcero, the members of the distinguished ecological group awarded them with Blue Ecological Flag of 2015 in the category of climate change.

“In order to earn this award the station in Zacero executed actions such as saving materials to be recycled, reduction in use of paper, use of residual water, reduction of aerosols, and the use of biodegradable materials,” said David Casares, chief of the local firefighters. They did all this as well as carrying out lectures and training sessions to the community, campaigns of re-forestation, maintenance of local rivers, and other ecological services.

The Blue Ecological Flag is given to different organizations throughout the country during the month of the environment which falls each year in June.
