Costa Rican Maricruz Ortíz was proclaimed, last Saturday, world champion in youth category racquetball for the 4th time. This was reported by Olman Mora, a journalist for the National Olympic Committee (CON), who explained that the Costa Rican won this Saturday in 3 sets to the Bolivian Micaela Meneses, with partials of 11-15, 15-2 and 11-10.

The 1st crown conquered it in 2012 in Los Angeles, United States. “I was 10 years old and it was the first time that a Costa Rican achieved a gold medal in a world championship in this sport”, Ortíz recalled.

Maricruz Ortíz, 4-time world racquetball champion

When she was 11 years old he reached the 2nd title in Sucre, Bolivia, and the 3-time championship at the age of 13 in the 27th World Youth Racquetball Championship held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 2015. This year, the tournament was held in The Costa Rica Indoor Club with the participation of 250 athletes from 14 countries.

On the road to the 4th title

Ortíz, 17-year-old, played 7 games in which he went undefeated. Against Canada, she won 15-9 / 15-6 and against Guatemala, the score was 15-1 and 15-0. Then against Cuba, he won with a 15-0 and 15-6, then defeated Ecuador (15-1 and 15-0), Argentina (15-12 and 15-11) and the United States (15-1 and 15-2 ).

Last Saturday, the last set was resolved by 1 single point and at the end of the 11th point, the Costa Rican athlete exploded in jubilation to get its 4th world championship.
