The Costa Rica News (TCRN)-Costa Rican Catholic conservative and religious groups will attend in October the First National Congress “For Life and Family”, which will discuss issues such as abortion, in vitro fertilization (IVF) and homosexuality.
The Association for Life, the organizer of the event, announced today that the theme of the congress is “Time to Act”, and about 500 people are expected to attend.
The congress will be held from October 25 to 27 at Universidad Latina in Costa Rica. According to an official statement, the objective of the activity is “to motivate people to defend and truthfully commit to life and family.”
The organizers believe that Costa Rica is under “constant external pressure against unborn babies´ right to life, which was particularly evident in the unfair sentence pronounced by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights regarding in vitro fertilization”.
Last December, the Inter-American Court ordered Costa Rica to permit In Vitro Fertilization, which had been banned in the country since 2000 by the Constitutional Court. At that time the Court considered that the medical technology threatened the lives of the embryos not who had not been implanted in the uterus of the mother.
At this time, the Congress is analyzing several bills, but despite the Court´s decree, the treatment is not available to citizens. The Congress will have the participation of professionals in human rights, genetics, medicine and psychology. In addition, the chairman of the National Committee Pro-Life in Mexico, Jorge Serrano, will deliver an important first talk.
Some of the talks will include these issues: “Therapeutic Abortion: Reality or Myth?”, “Understanding Homosexuality” and “Rethinking the Inter-American Human Rights System: Implications of the failure of the sentence by the CIDH on the IVF case and the Beatriz case”.
The Congress is organized by the Association for Life, the Family Pastoral National Commission and the Heroic Options Catholic Organization. EFE
