The formal process will begin on December 3 2012 although it is no secret that the fundraising has already been in full swing more than a year.
Parties with greatest electoral support are also those with many pre-candidates. In the case of the National Liberation Party (PLN), the list was narrowed to three candidates: Josephine Mayor Johnny Araya, the former Minister of the Presidency Rodrigo Arias and former Minister Fernando Berrocal Security. Also under consideratiob still is Antonio Álvarez Desanti and José María Figueres.
In the Citizen Action Party (PAC), the situation may be more complicated. Between decision and indecision is Epsy Campbell, who has not made her intentions public but is in regular meetings with MPs. The announcement is expected in the coming days.
Otton Solis, already experienced in political conflicts, flatly denies it but polls place him as a possible candidate. Other, Juan Carlos Mendoza (who is in full pre-campaign) and Claudio Monge, who has yet to express their interest in being President of Costa Rica. Other names that have risen in the PAC, are Segnini Monica and Luis Guillermo Solis.
In the Libertarian Movement (ML), the clearest candidate was Otto Guevara, however, at the last meeting new names emerged, including Cecilio Rios and Antonio Lopez Escarré.
In the Social Christian Unity Party (PUSC) candidate Pedro Munoz is on top. He, along with Roberto Sunol (another Social Christian interested in occupying the presidential chair) have attempted to approach the PAC.
Political parties wishing to participate as coalition have time to register with the Supreme Electoral Tribunal until August 1 next year.
