An exporting firm has informed FreshPlaza that for now weather conditions in Costa Rica are normal for pineapple production. In about fifteen days, the winter season in Costa Rica begins and the first rains are expected to start. According to producers, “Winter should not affect production greatly.” One of the phenomena caused by rain is the “Blow Water” which mainly affects pineapples of large calibre (5).
The exporter companies make certain that all the fruit that is to be sent abroad is of good quality. As a result, minimum inconveniences caused by winter are expected. “The rains followed by sunny days benefit the crops,” says a producer who said that currently they are in the summer season and are hoping for the rain to start.
