For the head of the Policy Unit of CIPAC, Francisco Madrigal, the campaign “promotes respect for sexual diversity among public officials, especially in those instances where there are no policies or guidelines of sexual orientation discrimination.”
The Advocate’s Office, Ofelia Taitelbaum, said in a statement that it is urgent to “build a society that respects the rights of people regardless of their social status or sexual orientation, and reject any discriminatory conduct or action that affects the dignity of each one of the inhabitants.”
The campaign is to inform people seeking gay rights in Costa Rica with existing administrative tools for the protection and defense of their fundamental rights and thus encourage complaints to the authorities in cases of discrimination.
The seven messages and seven radio internet videos to be released starting today and exemplify real situations of discrimination faced daily by this population, Madrigal said.
The campaign will continue throughout the second half of 2013.
