A strong earthquake struck the country early this morning, being 3:42 am. Early reports indicate that the quake was a magnitude of 5.7 located at a depth of 18.8 kilometers. The epicenter, according to the Earthquake Engineering Laboratory of the University of Costa Rica was located 26.7 kilometers from Sixaola, Talamanca, on the side of Panama.
The U.S. Geological Survey also located at the same point, but with a magnitude of 5.6 to 11.3 kilometers deep.
The Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) reported at about 5:00 am that the quake had a magnitude of 6.0 MW.
The motion was felt in Alajuela, Cartago, Puntarenas, San Jose and other parts of the country. So far, no damage reported despite how strong the earthquake although falling objects reported in areas of Quitirrisí, Tabarcia of Mora in San Vito Tiger Row Coto Brus.
Another earthquake had already been reported at 2:36 am with a magnitude of 4.1 and a location 2 miles northeast of Golfito Kilometer 24 in Puntarenas, these data according to (OVSICORI) and the National Seismological Network.
