Travel and tour with Tambor Adventure in the Nicoya Peninsula

From the moment we saw Eduardo’s smiling face, sign in hand with our names on it, we knew our Tambor Adventure shuttle service to Santa Teresa was going to be a good time. He put our bags in the trunk and opened the door to the spacious shuttle van, complete with air conditioning. There was a juicy orange sitting in the cup holder for each of us. We immediately began our conversation about Tambor Adventure shuttle service and tour offers.

Eduardo’s shuttle service brings people from San Jose airport, Liberia airport, or Tambor airport to places all over the country. The most popular sites for the shuttle service are Montezuma, Tambor, or Santa Teresa. He also can meet customers in Paquera, if they wish to take the ferry from Puntarenas across the Gulf of Nicoya. Eduardo is an experienced professional and local expert who is fluent in both English and Spanish. This makes for very interesting conversation. The shuttle service is safe and comfortable for anyone wishing to travel throughout the Nicoya Peninsula at an affordable price.

During our shuttle ride, we could tell that Eduardo loves to meet all kinds of people and share his knowledge of Costa Rica. He told us the background story to how “pura vida” became the national saying. For those of you who may not know, the Costa Rican military was abolished in December 1948 because the country felt that their money would be better spent on education. Furthermore, women achieved the right to vote in 1949. These two occurrences brought a newfound happiness to the citizens of Costa Rica, and they needed a saying to incorporate all that they were feeling. “Pura vida” seemed just right.

His business, Tambor Adventure, also offers a private EcoAdventure or Multi-Adventure tour in Puntarenas, specially tailored to each tour group. The company will design a tour for any type of traveler and for whatever agenda they may have. Young travelers, old travelers, couples, or families, Tambor Adventure will follow your wishes.

The EcoAdventure tour includes a 2-hour hike through Curu National Park, authentic lunch with a local family, boat ride and snorkeling at Isla Tortuga, and a swim at Florida Waterfall. During the hike, the guide will point out the diverse biosphere of animals in the park, including spider monkeys, white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys, crocodiles, white-nosed coaties, and agouti. Traveling between sites is done on a bus, which will stop at some places with great photo opportunities, such as the Old Catholic Church of Tambor and the Guanacaste Tree.

The tour begins at 8 AM – early in the morning because the wildlife is more active then – and ends at 5 PM. The tour is done on a modern, air-conditioned bus.

The total cost of the tour is $120, which includes:

  • Private walking tour by a local guide through Curu National Park
  • Authentic lunch with a local family
  • Boat tour to Isla Tortuga
  • Use of snorkel equipment
  • Transport in air-conditioned bus
  • Gratuities

The Multi-Adventure tour is for anyone that likes adventure, adrenaline, and exciting experiences in the middle of the jungle. The tour starts with safety instructions and precautions about quad-riding before the adventure begins. After some travel on the quad, there will be an exhilarating zip-line canopy tour in Mal Pais. The tour continues on to La Isla Cementerio de Cabuya, where you will see some beautiful, scenic sites and learn about the area’s history. Then, you will travel to a couple beaches, and end at the famous Montezuma Waterfall.

The Multi-Adventure tour begins at 8 AM and ends at 2 PM. Pick-up and drop-off is directly from the customer’s hotel (included in the price).

The total cost of the tour is $120, which includes:

  • One quad (ATV) per couple
  • Local tour guide
  • Bottle of water and snacks
  • Zip-lining in Mal Pais

We didn’t have the chance to participate in either of the tours, but we wish we could have! The true cultural experience would be something you just can’t find with a big tour company. Eduardo was an extremely knowledgeable guide, and we were lucky to have been offered his shuttle service. Tambor Adventure offers a truly unique, authentic experience that we at The Costa Rica News would recommend to anyone traveling to the Nicoya Peninsula area.
