Latin America News – On Friday the Venezuela government rejected statements by President Barack Obama on Venezuela and Hugo Chavez.

“Obviously the most important thing to remember is that the future of Venezuela should be in the hands of the Venezuelan people,” Obama said in an interview with Univision, in which he recalled that his government has “seen Chavez authoritarian policies and repression of dissent.”

After hearing the statements, the Minister of Communication and Information, Ernesto Villegas, read a statement that the government of Venezuela “rejects categorically the most outrageous statements about Venezuela and Hugo Chavez (…) in this special moment of tenderness the Bolivarian government requires the government and U.S. officials respect for the dignity of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez and its institutions.”

Villegas added that “with his infamous statements in this delicate moment for Venezuela,” Obama “is responsible for conducting bilateral relations to further deterioration, continuing its policy of aggression and disrespect towards the country.”
