The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Union representatives have requested an increase of 3.96% for private sector wages in Costa Rica for the first half of 2014, said an official source.
The Labor Ministry said in a statement that the request came at the start of the trading period within the National Wages Council (CNS).
The 3.96% compensates for issues like inflation durning the first six months of 2014, inflation compensation in 2013, and the growth of per capita GDP in the last five years.
The hearings will continue next Monday when the CNS hears from representatives of employers for the proposal and two days later the Ministry of Labor will set the wage increase.
In Costa Rica, the government sets wage increases for each semester, both the private sector and the public, but under separate circumstances. (EFE)
