The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Costa Rica received 2,526,817 tourists in 2014, representing a growth of 4.1 percent compared to 2013.

According to the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), Americans represented 67.5 percent of entries, Europeans accounted for 16.5 percent and  6.9 percent were South Americans.

The Head of Planning and Development of ICT, Rodolfo Lizano, said that most vacationers enter Costa Rica by air.

Tourism Minister Wilhelm von Breymann, says that the work between the private and public sectors has enabled this significant growth in tourism. He also noted that the increase in tourist arrivals allowed the creation of some 130,000 jobs in 2014.

Compared to other Central American countries, Costa Rica maintains the largest tourism industry, however Nicaragua, Belize and Guatemala also saw a jump in visitors last year. (Amelia Rueda)
