Spanish airline Iberia will increase this year by 6% their seats for flights to Costa Rica, which will reach the 250,000 seats, said the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT).

“The increase in the operations of the airline Iberia, allows us to link up with our major tourism markets and largest generators of foreign exchange from tourism from Europe such as Spain, France and Germany,” he said in a statement the Minister of Tourism Allan Flores.

The airline operates a daily flight between San Jose and Madrid and in 2012 used this route a total of 194,000 passengers, with an occupancy rate of 84% of the aircraft, said the ICT.

Minister Flores said that besides the increase in 6% of the seats on ICT develops a “cooperative campaign” with Iberia to promote the destination of Costa Rica through joint advertising.

International sales director of Iberia, Valdemoros Angel said in the statement that the company expects to “consolidate the leadership position and favorite airline passengers flying between Costa Rica and Europe”

“The significant growth of Iberia in Costa Rica at a time like the present difficulties demonstrates the importance that the country has in our strategy,” he said.
