The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The capital of Costa Rica is preparing to celebrate next Saturday, the Chinese New Year, with a music festival, dances and typical dishes of the Asian country.

Activities will take place in Chinatown, an urban area created in December 2012 with markets, shops and Chinese-owned restaurants, said the Cultural Office of the Chinese Embassy in San José.

With this festival, supported by the Municipality of San José, the Chinese Embassy will demonstrate the charm of its culture and convey to the world their concept of happiness, harmony and prosperity.

It also will feature artistic performances, martial arts, traditional dragon dances, parades of traditional costumes and some of the attendees could benefit with gifts.

According to the Chinese lunar calendar, this is the year of the wooden horse, a symbol of strength, determination and loyalty.

As reported by the Cultural Office of the Embassy of China, this festival is a celebration campaign promoted worldwide since 2010 in cooperation with authorities and institutions in various countries by overseas Chinese residents.

Costa Rica is the only Central American country that has diplomatic relations with China, which were established in June 2007. The other countries in the region allies Taiwan.

Since then the two countries have carried out cooperation for many projects in areas ranging from the economy and infrastructure to sports and culture. (ACAN-EFE)
