Jacqueline and Joseph Vargas are two brothers who live in San Venecia de San Carlos. They are interested in promoting a project to boost healthy lifestyle to the Costa Ricans. To carry out this idea, they decided to create their own company which aims to drum up kitchen gardening.

Their initiative consists in encouraging people to have their kitchen garden at home so that they can grow vegetables and fruits.

Jacqueline and Joseph tried to get the project started one year ago, but they couldn’t due to lack of funds. However, they never gave up and decided to take part in a contest organized by Beyond Company to finance the enterprise with the money won. They finally attained the first prize, 1 million colones in goods and services to set up their business.

According to Jacqueline Vargas, they will construct their company facilities with recycled material. Once they start up their business, they will be offering technical advice related to the production of fruit and vegetables at home.

In the event, a total of 18 proposals were displayed. The contest counted on the participation of 18 groups some of which even came up with programs to improve healthcare facilities and architectural development. Beyond Company expressed satisfaction with the positive results of this activity.

“This was a great opportunity for the Costa Rican young people to use their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit to promote healthy lifestyle through the correct use of natural resources” – said Lourdes Reyes, Beyond manager in Central America.

This is what kitchen gardening is about.
