Canadian expat Ryan Piercy is safe and sound in his San Jose home after he was reported missing for the last month when his car was found abandoned with the engine running on the side of Route 32.
According to the Judicial Investigation Police (OIJ) a disheveled and shaken Piercy returned to his home around midnight on Saturday via a taxi.
It was theorized that Piercy, a well-known board member of the Association of Residents of Costa Rica (ARCR) was kidnapped, and while many of the details have not been released, this looks to be the situation.
OIJ Director Francisco Segura was able to confirm the following information in a statement this morning:
“According to the family, he arrived and knocked on the door of their home. Apparently he arrived in a taxi that he boarded in San Pedro. He said he had been held captive for more than 30 days in subhuman conditions, which is why we immediately transferred him to a forensics lab for an examination to determine both his physical condition and his version of events, which is normal police procedure. Today [Monday], we possibly will interview him when he is more relaxed and rested…to determine if we can identify his captors.”
