The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Today the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center(CATIE) celebrates its 40th anniversary of operations in Costa Rica, from where it conducts research on agricultural issues for Latin America and the Caribbean.
CATIE, whose facilities are located in the rural town of Turrialba, about 68 miles east of San José, is an international university dedicated to providing solutions to regional needs by combining research, education and innovation for development.
The institution announced that in order to celebrate their anniversary, academic, government and diplomatic representatives, as well as the private sector and Non-Govermental Organizations will meet in a gala event.
The event will include the participation of the Secretary of Agriculture of the United States, Thomas Lovejoy, who will give a talk on “sustainability in tropical landscapes.”
CATIE is an international university specializing in agriculture and natural resources since 1973 for rural populations in Latin America and the Caribbean to achieve higher human development. EFE
