Last Thursday, August 9th, G&M Cosmetics S.A., distributor of top-quality Italian hair care products from Davines, officially launched the program “Belleza Sostenible,” which aims at ensuring the sequestration of blue carbon in Costa Rica through the protection and preservation of wetlands. The program is launched in cooperation with Neotropica Foundation.
G & M Cosmetics SA and Neotropica Foundation have joined efforts in order to reforest mangrove areas by increasing tree planting and thus extend wetland areas in the country, specifically in the South Pacific.
The Costa Rica South Pacific region is known for having the highest percentage of land devoted to national parks and protected forest areas, with greater biodiversity than any other region in the country.
This strategic alliance seeks to raise awareness among communities about the importance of tree planting as a way to preserve mangrove areas. The main goal is to raise funds for the planting of about 4,000 mangrove trees in the Southern region of Costa Rica.
The money will be raised from the contributions made by Davines’ clients in all its affiliated salons around the country.
In addition, workers of hair salons affiliated with Davines will be sensitized to the importance of mangrove conservation.
Gabriela Lara, General Manager of G&M Cosmetics, indicates that the company does not want to miss the chance to make its contribution to the environmental protection of Costa Rica, and that G&M Cosmetics is committed to find ways to reduce its footprint on the planet.
“We wan to achieve sustainability in our business” Lara said.
How to be a part of “Belleza Sostenible”
Contributing to the program “Belleza Sostenible” is quite easy.
Each beauty salon will have two types of cards available for clients to purchase. The cost of these cards is ¢5000 and ¢2000 respectively, and they will be available for a period of six months.
During that period, clients can activate the code in their cards and participate in monthly raffles and win different prizes.
With each purchase, clients will contribute to funding the programs “Belleza Sostenible” and “Blue Community Carbon” of Neotropica Foundation.
In addition, both clients and staff members will have the opportunity to participate in a tree planting day, during which they will learn bout the importance of the mangroves and wetlands.
