The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Within three years, the Costa Rican company Purdy Motor will bring the first hydrogen operated vehicles into the country to replace of petroleum-based fuels.
The general manager of Purdy Motor, Javier Quiros, commented Wednesday morning on the program Nuestra Voz, that Toyota gives priority to Costa Rica to release vehicles with innovative green technologies, For instance their popular hybrid electric car the Prius came to Costa Rica after the United States and Japan.
The first car to be powered by a hydrogen fuel cell is the Toyota Mirai which was launched this year with 700 units that will be sold in Japan and some European countries.
The General Manager of Purdy Motor also said that they are already working together with the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) and the company of former astronaut Franklin Chang, Ad Astra Rocket, to implement this technology.
Quirós sees the Prius hybrid cars and the new hydrogen cars a great opportunity for the country to reduce pollution and carbon emissions to achieve its goal of carbon neutrality by 2021.
