The list was divided into categories: Best beach hotel, Best Family Hotel, Best Featured Hotel, Most Creative Hotel, Cheapest Hotel, Best Designed Hotel, and Best Food. The Andaz Hotel won Best Family Hotel.

Rogers adds that the hotel is ideal for the family as it has areas and games aimed at the younger members of the house, not to mention, he adds, that they can make sand castles and play on the two private beaches.
Other Latin American hotels included in the list are in Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and Peru.
