The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Costa Rica authorities today seized and destroyed a shipment of 2,500 kilos of rice smuggling into the country via the Nicaraguan border, said an official source.
The State Phytosanitary Service (SFE) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) said in a statement that the confiscation had the cooperation of the security forces.
The rice was distributed in 50 bags inside a machine that was carried by a tractor although authorities have not reported any detainees.
Official figures show that this year the border police confiscated different agricultural contraband shipments such as raicilla, beans, chili pepper, banana and rice. (EFE)
