The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – This week, the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) will be at two international exhibitions in Los Angeles and Boston, USA, for foreign adventure lovers who want to visit the Central American country.
At the “Los Angeles Travel & Adventure Show 2014” which will be on February 8 and 9, Americans will be able to design and plan a trip to their taste at thee tourism fair, the ICT said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the show “The Boston Globe Travel Show 2014” which will be held from February 7 to 9, will also focus on strengthening the position of Costa Rica as a destination for adventure.
These two events will be attended by a total of 15 Costa Rican companies that seek business with representatives of hotels, tour operators, tourism authorities, travel agencies, among others.
Surveys conducted by the ICT tourists who have entered through airports have confirmed that over 25% of Americans who entered Costa Rica in 2012 went ziplining, an adventure activity in which tourists move through the trees via a cable.
The United States remains the largest source of tourists to Costa Rica with a total of 929,402 in 2013, representing 40% of all visits, according to official data.
Tourism Minister, Allan Flores, said his country’s strategy is to further promote in priority markets such as the United States.
The shows “Allowed us to showcase the tourism strengths and differentiation that characterizes Costa Rica in terms of sustainability, innovation, human quality, professionalism and tourism infrastructure,” said the minister.
The development of adventure tourism has led the country to be recognized as the “Most Popular Adventure Travel Destination in 2012” by TripAdvisor site, which specializes in travel.
Costa Rica, a country of 4.7 million inhabitants and home to 4.5% of the planet’s biodiversity, received a total of 2.34 million tourists in 2013. (ACAN-EFE)
