The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Many fishermen in the Southern zone of Costa Rica have stopped using trawls and changed to smaller nets. This new technique will capture white shrimp without affecting other marine species.
The executive director of the Costa Rican Federation of Fisheries (FECOP), Enrique Ramirez, said that thanks to a new program, fishermen are receiving training to use smaller networks and other techniques that minimize the impact to other species, helping to preserve delicate marine environments.
This year, an oyster culture is also be cultivated in Golfo Dulce to increase production of this mollusk and generate income for fishermen in March and April. (Amelia Rueda)
