The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – The Costa Rican police have seized a total of 14.9 tons of cocaine so far for 2013, nearly a ton and a half per month, said the security ministry.

According to authorities, substantial improvements in equipment, technology, and training for officers were the causes of these blows to drug trafficking.

Costa Rican Security Minister, Mario Zamora, explained in a statement that in addition, since January they have seized nearly $3.4 million in cash from criminal networks.

Since 2011, Costa Rica has seized more than 440,000 crack rocks, 30,000 ecstasy tablets, 10.5 tons of marijuana and destroyed 4.8 million of these plants.

Police have also detained 228 firearms and 334 vehicles that were in the hands of drug traffickers. (EFE)
