The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Through a tweet, Deputy Ronald Vargas, member of the Broad Front for the province of Guanacaste, spoke in favor of the province discussing the possibility of autonomy and separating itself from Costa Rica.
Hoy es el gran día de autonomía de #Escocia ¿En algún momento podremos votar en #Guanacaste para volver a ser autónomos? #PartidodeNicoya

The deputy added that he has not only raised the idea, but there are several groups that have very seriously pursued this in the province.
He adds that the interest is due to the neglect of the government to the province.
“Many people have expressed their desire that Guanacaste consider abandoning the Costa Rica government. Guanacaste and Nicoya existed as a party, and when Costa Rica became independent, Guanacaste should have remained independent and I think if we look at the 189 years of annexation it has not been so positive,” Vargas said.
