The chairman of the National Committee of the People’s Political Consultative Conference Chinese, Jia Qinglin will visit Costa Rica next week to meet with President Laura Chinchilla and other authorities, the Foreign Ministry announced.
Jia Qinglin will be in Costa Rica December 3rd to the 5th and hold meetings with the president of the Legislative Assembly, Victor Emilio Granados, and the foreign minister, Enrique Castillo.
“Jia’s visit aims to strengthen and deepen bilateral friendly ties with Costa Rica, following the recent state visit of President Chinchilla to China last August,” said an official statement.
Jia president since March 2003 Political Consultative Conference but has also played other positions in his country as a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party Central Committee, the Beijing mayor and governor of Fujian Province.
Jia’s visit to Costa Rica is part of a Chinese official tour that includes visits to Italy and Argentina.
The People’s Political Consultative Conference Chinese comprises representatives of different political and social groups in China.
It is considered an important part of the Chinese system, and serves as an advisory body. Several leading figures in the modern history of China, as Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai and Deng Xiaoping, have been Presidents of the Conference.
Costa Rica and China established diplomatic relations in June 2007, after the Costa Rica broke ties over 40 years in Taiwan.
