    Earth Day celebrates its 45th anniversary on April 22, 2015. Earth Day is a global event focused on environmental protection and improvement. The Earth Day Network has affiliates and partners in 192 countries all dedicated to sustainability through awareness and educational initiatives.

    Costa Rica is a global recognized green-friendly country and is regarded as a poster-country for environmental sustainability. Earlier this year Costa Rica made headlines once again for only using renewable energy for electricity the first 75 days of 2015.

    Costa Rica has ranked very well in a number of environmental indexes in recent years:

    In 2014 Global Green Economy Index provided an in-depth look at how 60 countries and 70 cities that are doing in developing more environmentally friendly economies. It assesses countries across the globe and found that the Scandinavian countries, along with Germany were the leaders. Sweden and Norway topped the performance list, with Costa Rica ranking third.

    In 2013 World Energy Council ranked Costa Rica as Number 2 in environmental sustainability, right behind Switzerland.

    What to do for Earth Day 2015 in Costa Rica?

    There are plenty of things to consider doing for Earth Day 2015 here in Costa Rica. There are a number of local events and campaign throughout the country, such as beach, neighborhood and park clean-up programs. It’s also a good time to get out and enjoy some Costa Rica bio-diversity and unique eco-systems. National Geographic called Costa Rica one of the ‘bio-intense places on the planet”, so consider visiting a National Park to see some bio-intensity up close for Earth Day 2015.
