Latin America News – Brazil: Hundreds of Brazilian Indians reoccupied a rural property in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul in the latest episode of tensions between indigenous groups and the powerful lobby of farmers.
Terena tribe says that the disputed area is located in their ancestral lands.
Two days ago, one of its members died in clashes with police trying to evict the Indians.
The property owner said the group had “taken the option of war”, attacking police with bows and arrows.
Correspondents say the clashes represent a dilemma for the government, which tries to reconcile the interests of both groups.
