“This event is organized by the Gold Coast Women’s Group to bring women together.  An event offering fun, fashion and camaraderie.  It’s an event where women may not otherwise meet as they go about their daily lives.  An event providing women the opportunity of a few hours for themselves before they return to all their obligations and responsibilities.  At our most recent event held at the Beach House restaurant we had an evening of wine, cheese and chocolate.  We make every attempt to organize events that women are interested in attending, but fashion is by far the most popular,” says Maureen Thompson, co-founder of the Gold Coast Women’s Group.

The idea for organizing the Gold Coast Women’s Group and fashion show developed when Anne Scalf, a new resident to Playa Grande, asked Pennye Wheeler to help her meet women in the area.  Pennye provided the names, an invite was sent, and the first gathering of women was held at the new Azul Beachfront Restaurant & Bar (formerly the Happy Snapper) in 2009. Maureen Thompson and Anne Scalf met at that event and the rest is history.

Since then, together (and with lots of help from their friends) they have co-hosted these events.  Their events have been held at El Coconut Restaurant, Rip Jack Inn/Restaurant, Mar y Sol, Hotel Conchal Tree Top Restaurant, Reserva Conchal Beach Club/Restaurant and their most recent event was held at the new Beach House Restaurant in Potrero.

The Gold Coast Women are all women, of at least 18 years of age, from the local area stretching from Tamarindoto Surfside/Potrero and all towns in between.  They are an inclusive group and want all like-minded women of the Guanacaste area to join.  These are women who are interested in meeting and socializing with others. The Gold Coast Women are exactly that – a social gathering of women who have a desire to reconnect with friends and a chance to make new and lasting friendships.

With a list of over 500 women, they also rally together to help others especially in emergencies and critical situations. For women who want to join, please contact Maureen Thompson at [email protected] and Anne Scalf at [email protected].
