The Costa Rica News (TCRN) – Fifty European and Latin American universities have laid the foundations to create an Observatory of University Social Responsibility, which serves to promote models of sustainably that are committed to the society in which they operate management.

This agenda is being addressed during the First International Conference on University Social Responsibility initiatives, held in Cadiz, and which involved some 200 professionals from more than ten countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Paraguay, Portugal and Venezuela.

The main challenge of this project is to achieve recognition of the role that social responsibility plays in the pursuit of excellence, explained a press release.

To do this, participants have decided to launch a network of university professors in Spain, Europe and Latin America to boost a permanent platform for the fertilization of ideas, sharing of practices, projects and research, and to develop joint strategies to leverage resources.

The need to implement social responsibility, which they defined as, “good governance, transparency, efficiency, participation, sustainability, and solidarity,” has been one of the conclusions of this conference, seeking to establish an evaluation model to control and improve the universities.

“The University needs to be responsible for training socially responsible citizens,” said the press release on the findings of the conference. (EFE)
