The Costa Rica News (TCRN)- A year after its selection as the purchaser of the food court of Juan Santamaria Airport, Quiznos Sub S.A, franchise of QSR International, opened eight restaurants in that terminal: Quiznos, KFC, Cinnabon, Smashburger and Ron Centenario Bar & Café.
The project covers an area of the food court near boarding gate 4 where KFC, Quiznos, Smashburger, Cinnabon and Q’Corner are located. There are two kiosks Quiznos To Go outside gates 10 and 3, as well as a Ron Centenario Bar and Café in front of gate 8.
According to Beecher Carolina, marketing manager of QSR International, the openings cost about $ 5.5 million. “For us, as a company, it has been a major challenge, as we were able to overcome obstacles related to international regulations and building at airports” said Beeche.
The company hired more than 100 direct employees, including administrative and restaurant employees, who had to be bilingual. The contract between QSR and Aeris Holding SA -Airport concessionaire, is in force since mid-2012 and authorizes the creditor company to operate these food courts for 8 years with possibility of extension.
Two Malinche restaurants also operate at the terminal: one at the external public area and one near gate 7, both operated by Casa Phillips which also distributes food to aircraft.
In Costa Rica, QSR International owns and operates 31 KFC restaurants, 29 Quiznos restaurants, 5 Teriyaki Experience restaurants and the new Ron Centenario Bar & Café. In the next 12 months, QSR International will open five more KFC restaurants.
