    Latin America News – The Popocatepetl Volcano first explosion occurred in the early Wednesday morning, spewing ash and throwing rock fragments in several directions.

    The explosion was followed by a series of tremors.

    A huge column of ash from the crater of the volcano was seen 400 meters (1,300 feet) above the crater.

    Mexican authorities issued a moderate alert but remain vigilant to other possible volcanic activity and eruptions of lava and ash.
