On Thursday, social network Pinterest announced an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered tool that will assist its users with online shopping and searches.
The “Styled for You” collage will serve as a personal advisor in the sometimes difficult search for the perfect outfit for a special occasion, such as a first date, by helping users create outfits from saved fashion Pins, boards, or collages,or others with similar tastes, according to a company statement.
The tool, which is already available, can also help users choose, for example, the ideal bedding for the winter season.
According to the company, Pinterest Assistant is designed to offer proactive recommendations that match the user’s style when they are undecided about what they want.
To help with that search, the platform offers “boards made for you,” which are personalized offers selected with AI. By tapping the microphone, the tool describes what you are looking for and will offer personalized visual results with audible responses, Pinterest noted.
“People, especially Gen Z, say that the magic of Pinterest is that ‘it just gets me,’ whether it’s finding the perfect outfit or discovering your unique style,” CEO Bill Ready said in the statement.
In pointing out what makes Pinterest Assistant different, the platform emphasized that it is primarily based on an AI visual language model, not a typical text model.
The social network also highlighted that it expands multimodal search by allowing users to go beyond simple text searches and ask open-ended questions. Because it is personalized, it makes recommendations tailored to each customer and for products that can be purchased on Pinterest, the company added.
“With Pinterest Assistant, we’re enhancing that magic by leveraging AI to help our users discover and shop as if they were accompanied by the person who knows them best,” the statement adds.
